RESEARCH ANALYST
PhoCusWright, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northstar Travel Media, LLC, is the travel industry research authority on the evolving dynamics that influence how travelers, suppliers and intermediaries connect. PhoCusWright is currently seeking a Research Analyst. This position will ideally be located out of one of our offices in mid-town Manhattan, Secaucus, NJ, or Sherman, CT.
What is the perfect PhoCusWright analyst?
A PhoCusWright analyst has the right mix of go-getter/geek/nerd who impresses in person: a sharp thinker and a quick wit; a data devourer with a passion for precise, punchy prose; someone who can be comfortable in their skin while speaking in front of a room full of executives from a Fortune 500 company. A PhoCusWright analyst does not have to love to travel, but needs to get excited about the business of travel, the technology that powers it, and the innovation that is changing it.
What does a PhoCusWright analyst do?
A lot. Conduct interviews, develop sources, manage surveys, analyze data, write, edit, generate new product ideas… A PhoCusWright analyst could spend days locked in a room pouring over spreadsheets, and then have to show up at a conference, wow an audience and schmooze the day (and night) away. PhoCusWright is a prestigious company, but we also run a tight ship. That means we all pitch in, and we all have our share of grunt work. But if you have a passion for expanding your mind and speaking what's in it, the rewards are worth it.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify industry trends and new technologies, cultivate sources, interview key targets, analyze findings and statistics, and aggregate results to create compelling articles, reports, presentations and other client deliverables.
- Maintain a constant dialogue with industry decision makers through phone conversations, face to face meetings and conference attendance, and access news and information sources on a daily basis.
- Upkeep databases containing PhoCusWright's global market sizing and projections for both internal and client use.
- Communicate with clients and prospects via live presentations, recorded video and podcasts, access to analyst sessions and written reports. Provide deliverables on schedule and with minimal revision required.
- Identify new revenue opportunities, supporting sales and marketing efforts, as well as leverage existing materials to create new products and publications.
- Manage multiple surveys, projects, clients and resources; coordinate the activities of other analysts to ensure complete and accurate coverage of markets, companies, trends and strategies.
- Promote intelligence sharing among the PhoCusWright analyst community and the industry at large.
Desired Experience and Requirements
- Strong quantitative background in math, finance, economics or statistics
- The ability to tackle complex questions with resourcefulness and an investigative disposition
- Experience in presenting and/or other high-pressure verbal communication scenarios (executive interviews, negotiations, etc.)
- Background in the travel industry with a passion for new technology
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
- Even better Excel skills
- Superb PowerPoint skills
- Assertive, outgoing and eager to learn, as well as meticulous about details
- Working successfully in a deadline-driven environment
- Editing a variety of materials in a precise and timely schedule
- Knowledge of multiple languages and global markets would be super
- College degree (of course)
